One of the most known islands is the famous sea fortress of Suomenlinna. It is also a Unesco World Heritage Site and the biggest sea fortress in Europe.
What is a Sauna
Step into the world of blissful relaxation and ancient traditions as we explore the captivating realm of the sauna. Steeped in history and cherished by cultures across the globe, the sauna is more than just a hot room — it's an experience that rejuvenates the mind, body, and soul.
Imagine yourself surrounded by the soothing warmth, enveloped in a cloud of steam that gently caresses your skin. As you sit on the wooden bench, the sauna becomes your sanctuary, a place where time stands still, and worries melt away.
While the sauna may seem like a modern wellness trend, its origins can be traced back thousands of years. The ancient Finns, considered pioneers of sauna culture, believed that the sauna was a sacred space for healing and cleansing. In fact, the word "sauna" itself is Finnish in origin, reflecting the deep-rooted significance of this practice in their culture.
Beyond its cultural importance, the sauna offers an array of health benefits that have been celebrated for centuries. Sweating in the sauna promotes detoxification, flushing out toxins and impurities from the body. The rise in body temperature also stimulates blood circulation, resulting in improved cardiovascular health and a natural glow to the skin.
You may also try "Vihta" in sauna. Vihta is a bunch of birch leaves bundled together. It is dipped in water and used to gently hit parts of your body, mostly the back. This ritual, known as "whisking," stimulates the blood circulation and releases a subtle aroma into the sauna.
Sauna bathing is often seen as a social activity, a place where friends and family gather to unwind and connect. The act of sharing stories and laughter while sitting together in the warmth fosters a sense of community and deepens relationships. In Finnish culture important decisions are even made within the confines of the sauna, as its intimate setting promotes open and honest conversations.
Whether you seek relaxation, improved health, or a glimpse into ancient traditions, the sauna provides an enticing escape from the chaos of everyday life. It is a space where time slows down, allowing you to reconnect with yourself and find harmony in the present moment. So, immerse yourself in the warmth, let the steam envelop you, and embrace the sauna experience — a truly captivating journey for both body and soul.
